The Senate Standing Committee on Economic Affairs was informed on Wednesday that the Dasu Transmission Line project has allegedly caused a $500 million loss to the national exchequer due to large-scale irregularities, reported Express Tribune.
The committee, chaired by Senator Saifullah Abro, raised serious concerns about the project’s transparency. Lawmakers questioned how the contract was awarded to a company that lacked experience in manufacturing bundling conductors, sidelining the lowest bidder without a clear explanation.

Senator Abro strongly criticized the concerned authorities, saying favoritism towards an inexperienced firm had allegedly resulted in a major financial setback. He accused officials of compromising the integrity of the procurement process.
Officials from NESPAK and the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) failed to provide convincing responses during the meeting, prompting further frustration from committee members.
The chairman ordered a thorough investigation into the matter and stressed that those found responsible should face consequences. The committee also decided to refer the case to the Public Accounts Committee for deeper scrutiny and possible action.
