The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has established Discipline-Specific Faculty Councils (DSFCs) to create a structured platform for teachers from its on-campus, constituent, and affiliated institutions. The initiative is aimed at improving teaching standards, boosting research output, and strengthening assessment practices.
As part of the new framework, each council will organize continued professional development (CPD) activities within its discipline. The first seminar under the program, titled “Updates in Physiology Research,” was held on Tuesday by the UHS Department of Physiology.

The seminar was inaugurated by UHS Vice Chancellor Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore, alongside Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Nadia Naseem and Head of the Physiology Department Prof. Uzma Zargham. It was attended by around 50 faculty members from affiliated medical colleges. Speakers included Dr. Sundus Tariq, Associate Professor at the International School of Medicine in Istanbul, Türkiye, and Prof. Mohsin Ali Cheema, Vice Principal of Narowal Medical College.
According to UHS, more than 5,000 faculty members from over 100 medical, dental, nursing, and allied health institutions will be part of these councils. Each DSFC will be chaired by the senior-most professor in its specialty and will meet at least once a month.
Prof. Rathore said the councils will bridge communication gaps between the university and its affiliates. He added that 19 seminars are scheduled across different disciplines by mid-September, with more planned throughout the academic year.
