Malaysia has agreed to import $200 million worth of meat from Pakistan, marking a significant boost to Pakistan’s export ambitions.

The understanding was reached during a recent meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya.

The Prime Minister welcomed the Malaysian decision to expand meat imports and assured that Pakistan would meet all quality requirements and regulatory conditions.

Pakistan and Malaysia also agreed to deepen cooperation across defence, agriculture, and emerging technologies. Speaking at a joint news conference afterward, Prime Minister Shehbaz called the talks “productive,” noting that both sides “converge on almost all important issues.

He stated Pakistan is keen to learn from Malaysia’s experience in technology, IT, and artificial intelligence, while pursuing joint ventures and mutually beneficial projects.

Earlier, the two governments exchanged Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in higher education, tourism, halal certification, anti-corruption cooperation, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), signaling a new phase in Pakistan-Malaysia relations.

Referring to the Urdu translation of Prime Minister Anwar’s book “Script”, Shehbaz described it as a framework for sustainability, innovation, and mutual trust. He also praised Anwar Ibrahim’s “visionary leadership” and reiterated that Pakistan, blessed with natural resources and talented youth, seeks a strong partnership with Malaysia to achieve shared goals of progress and prosperity.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim highlighted the historic and fraternal ties between the two nations, noting that economic cooperation had “always been at the forefront.” He confirmed that Malaysia has already increased imports of Pakistani rice and would now facilitate beef imports from Pakistan, while expanding collaboration in new technologies.

Anwar also appreciated Pakistan’s stance on Palestine, saying both countries share a similar outlook on global peace and stability.
