PTA Warns Public Against Rising Scam Calls and Online Fraud

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has warned citizens against a rise in online fraud and scam calls, urging the public to remain cautious and avoid sharing personal or financial information with unknown callers.

In an advisory, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority said fraudsters are increasingly using deceptive tactics, including calls claiming prize winnings, to trick people into clicking malicious links or disclosing sensitive details.

According to the authority, scammers often ask victims to share bank account information and other confidential data under false pretenses, exposing them to financial losses and identity misuse.

The PTA advised citizens to never share personal or banking information with unknown callers and to avoid clicking on suspicious links received through calls or messages.

The regulator urged the public to promptly report any suspected scam or fraudulent calls. Complaints can be lodged through PTA’s official complaint portal or via the PTA CMS mobile application to enable timely action.

The advisory said cases involving cybercrime should be reported to the Federal Investigation Agency through its helpline 1799, while incidents related to financial or mobile banking fraud should be reported to the State Bank of Pakistan helpline at 111 727 273. The PTA stressed that early reporting plays a critical role in limiting financial damage and protecting citizens’ digital security, adding that public awareness remains key to curbing fraud.
