Punjab E-Bike Scheme Applicants to Get Same-Day Driving License

The Punjab Traffic Police has introduced special arrangements for students applying for the provincial government’s 100,000 electric bike scheme. The new facility aims to make it easier for eligible e-bike applicants to obtain the driving license required for the scheme.

Punjab DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir has directed all driving license centers to give special assistance to students applying under the e-bike program. Traffic officers, including CTOs and DTOs, will facilitate applicants and help speed up the licensing process.

Under the new arrangements, eligible students can obtain both a motorcycle learner’s license and a regular driving license on the same day. They will also be exempt from the usual 42-day waiting period between getting a learner’s license and applying for a regular license.

A valid motorcycle driving license is mandatory for students who want to receive an electric bike through the scheme. The new facility will therefore help students complete this requirement without a lengthy wait.

The Punjab government recently opened applications for its electric bike scheme, which aims to provide 100,000 e-bikes to students. The initiative will make transportation more accessible for students and encourage the use of electric vehicles.

The traffic police also highlighted the growing demand for motorcycle licenses in the province. More than 222,000 motorcycle driving licenses were issued during the past eight days. In addition, over 6,500 juvenile driving permits have been issued during the current month.

DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir instructed licensing centers to provide the best possible facilities to students applying through the e-bike scheme. He also emphasized the importance of proper driving and road-safety training.

The authorities want students to become confident and responsible riders rather than simply completing the licensing requirement. Special attention to safe driving could help reduce accidents and improve road safety as more students begin using motorcycles and electric bikes.

The new licensing arrangements will remove one of the major hurdles for students participating in the e-bike scheme. By allowing eligible applicants to complete the licensing process on the same day, the Punjab Traffic Police is aiming to make the overall process faster and more convenient.
