Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has expressed her displeasure over the violation of traffic rules by Suthra Punjab vehicles.

Chairing a meeting in Lahore on Monday, she also expressed her heartfelt sorrow and grief over the tragic death of an innocent baby girl who was crushed by a Suthra Punjab vehicle. 

The Punjab Chief Minister also directed that immediate measures be taken to control the traffic jam situation from Shahdara to Thokar Niaz Baig.

Maryam Nawaz directed that smooth traffic be ensured at all entry and exit points of Lahore. She advised the drivers to use the bike lane on all the renowned roads in Lahore.

Maryam Nawaz ordered enforcement of the use of the Zebra Crossing for pedestrians. CM directed to declare Ferozepur Road as a model road of Lahore. She advised the authorities to install signals at Pine Avenue, Jati Umrah Chowk.

In a briefing, the Chief Minister was informed that in Global Traffic Rankings, Lahore achieved 29th position from 149. She said that 70 percent of traffic was decreased from Jati Umrah, Pine Avenue, Defence Morr, Karim Block, Akbar Flyover, Kahna, and Main Boulevard.

She was told that 4,096 traffic permits were issued to children under 18 years and 65,000 Pink Buttons were installed in different locations for women.

Maryam Nawaz ordered the designation of dedicated bike lanes on major roads in Lahore and directed authorities to ensure strict compliance with traffic rules by vehicles operating under the Suthra Punjab programme.

The meeting reviewed measures to improve traffic flow, pedestrian safety and traffic management in Lahore.
